TP Tools has teamed up with DeVILBISS® and developed a spray gun to master today's basecoat/clearcoat applications.
The new TP Tools® Graphite HVLP Spray Gun will be used exclusively to apply the silver basecoat and clearcoat to the 65 Vette shown left. 65 Vette Restoration - Hurricane Survivor
The 65 Vette shown left was originally purchased in 1967 by Bill Zwicker (uncle of the TP Tools owner, and brother of Tip Tools founder, Fred Zwicker). The Vette remained in Ohio for several years until Bill moved to Florida in 1973. Over the years, the car was repainted and was upkept mechanically and driven by Bill regularly in Florida.
In September 2022, hurricane Ian hit Southwest Florida and the 65 Vette ended up being under 8 ft of water. After the water receded, Bill's insurance company totaled the car. TP Tools owner, Bob, decided to purchase the Vette from the insurance company. Bob wanted to keep the car in the family, so within 3 weeks the car was transported back to its original home in Ohio.
The Vette was quickly looked over and then disassembled. The motor, gear box, rear end, and other components were full of mud, slime, and salt water. All were drained and filled with diesel fuel and left to sit while the rest of the car was desalted. The diesel fuel acted as a lubricant, cleaner, and helped loosen things up from the salt water corrosion. The motor was originally seized but the diesel fuel did the trick and broke it free. The diesel fuel was then drained and oil was put back in the motor. Unbelievably, after new plugs, wires, distributor, and carb rebuilding, the motor turned over, had oil pressure, and fired up. It smoked for a bit but now runs smooth and like new. Amazing! A new clutch, brake work, wiring, lines, etc. were installed. Paint was then stripped and body work began. The Vette shown left has now been sprayed with a final coat of TP Tools® Polyester Primer using the DeVILBISS® FLG Primer Gun (#3427-04PR, below). Later the Vette will be block sanded and primed again. The silver basecoat and clearcoat will be applied using the TP Tools® Graphite HVLP Spray Gun. The Graphite spray gun will provide excellent atomization, a uniform spray pattern, and a high-transfer efficiency resulting in a significant paint savings and excellent finish.
Thanks DeVILBISS® for developing the TP Tools® Graphite HVLP Spray Gun. The 65 Vette and our painter appreciate it!
